As a kid I made a mean mud pie. In 2001, I decided to try working in the mud again and started taking classes with Nan Hamilton at Mudville Pottery in Somerville, MA. I have been throwing high fire stoneware there ever since. In the past few years I have been using sgraffito techniques to make my pots more unique and interesting. I paint slip or underglaze on the leather-hard clay, then carve through the painted areas to the base clay to create my designs. The pots then go through a bisque firing, glazing, and refiring. The finished products are food, microwave and dishwasher safe.
